Flashing yellow lights on approach to Xings

A caller on Derryn Hinches segment on 3AW, had a very good idea, that would help safety at level crossings.


Something like having flashing yellow lights, say 200m before the level crossing, much like what they do with traffic lights, when they are on a major road, like a highway as you enter town.

Would this be a good idea?

I like that idea, they have those yellow flashing lights on the Westernport HWY in Lyndhurst and they are a great idea, as the speed limit through that area is 90, although much of the HWY and South Gippsland FWY is 100 Km/ph.

And they do work, having warning like that that the lights will change is great, so they should do the same for many of the level crossings throughout Vic.

#3, Do an S bend on the road around that crossing, forces all vehicles to slow down to 40kms per hour.

#4, Do something to the light colors on wig wags - One red and one blue.
Police cars, Fire engines etc, went from the Blue on cop cars and Red on everyone else, that was changed to 'red and blue on all types of vehicles'
Why, One color is hard to see during the day, the other color is hard to see during the night.

#5 = Flashing lights on the side of the train, say set it up so that, alturnating cars take it in turn to flash, and hence, as the train comes over a field, you can see it approach.

Just been announced,

Someone had stated that, the one in Albury/Wagga Wagga where that bus full of footy players tried to outrun the XPT, that crossing had such a treatment done on it.

Grade separate the lot.
